Reform of the UK corruption laws - Enforcement and Compliance

Location: BDO Stoy, Manchester

Date/Time: 2:00 pm - 17 March 2010

Please join us at the above event, which will take place at the offices of BDO Stoy at 2pm on Wedneday 17 March 2010 (coffee from 1:30pm) where you will hear about the anti-corruption laws, in particular:

  • The UK is about to enact a new Bribery Act which should see a radical revision of laws which have been around for 100 years
  • The new Act promises to give UK law enforcement the tools to be far tougher on UK corporates which commit overseas corruption offences
  • An innovative section in the proposed law introduces a new corporate liability offence of failing to prevent bribery which may create a new compliance burden on UK business conducting international trade
  • International law enforcement action against corruption continues to hot up - recent US fines against foreign companies include the $800m imposed on Siemens and the $400m against BAE Systems.
  • Gavin Cunningham, from BDO London and formerly a Principal Investigator at the SFO, will talk about these developments and what the future may hold for those faced with dealing with corruption.
